Expectations of Paul and Daisy Soros Fellows
Expectations of Paul and Daisy Soros Fellows:
- Facilitate a visit from the Program Director to the Fellow’s graduate program, including meetings with the fellow’s dean, major professor, and financial aid officer.
- Provide the program with transcripts of academic work done under the Program’s support.
- Attend two weekend Fall Conferences of Fellows in New York City. These events provide numerous opportunities for the sixty current fellows to get to know each other, discuss common problems, and reflect on the challenges of career and family. They visit major New York cultural institutions: the Metropolitan Opera, a Broadway show, the great museums, etc. Mrs. Soros traditionally hosts each new class at a cocktail reception in her apartment. Prominent speakers lead discussions of issues such as immigration policy, climate change, human rights and civil liberties.
- Provide the program with an “end of fellowship” report.
Though not “required,” we strongly encourage former fellows to maintain contact with the Program, participate in Alumni Association activities, serve as panelists who interview finalists for future classes, and attend regional functions for fellows and alumni. The great majority of former fellows continue their involvement with the Program through such activities.
