About Tony Pan

Tony Pan is an entrepreneur and physicist based in Seattle. He founded Borrowing Arrows, a research and licensing venture focused on China's deep-tech frontier, from AI and chips to energy and aerospace. He serves as a board director at Ammobia. Previously he founded and served as the CEO of Modern Electron and Modern Hydrogen, energy and materials technology companies backed by $130M from Bill Gates, NextEra Energy, National Grid, and TC Energy.

Dr. Pan is a co-inventor on 200+ issued patents worldwide, spanning energy, semiconductors, drones, and biomedical devices.

His past experiences include pro bono consulting on global health for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and for the Global Good Fund, and he was a strategist at Goldman Sachs. He is a term member at the Council on Foreign Relations, and previously served as a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Future Councils on Energy.

He has been named to Forbes 30 Under 30, MIT Technology Review's Innovators Under 35, and the Puget Sound Business Journal's 40 Under 40, and its Environmental and Sustainability Award.

Tony's Ph.D. is from Harvard, where he held three national fellowships from the Hertz, Paul & Daisy Soros, and National Science Foundations. There he explored the cosmic dawn, the "Let there be light" moment in the nascent universe, when the very first stars lived and died in spectacular explosions.

Tony grew up in Taiwan, Scotland, and Korea. It wasn't until he was a high school senior that his family's green card application was finally approved and Tony was able to accept an offer of admission and financial aid from Stanford University. He immigrated to the USA and never looked back.
