About Nathan Mallipeddi

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Nathan Mallipeddi is the son of immigrants from Andhra Pradesh, India who came to the United States for improved employment opportunities. With his parents working full-time, Nathan was sent to live with his grandparents in Andhra Pradesh for three years, where he learned from his grandmother the importance of grit and resilience. When Nathan rejoined his parents in the San Jose Bay Area, he learned to greatly appreciate both his family’s courage and the crucial support provided by thriving immigrant communities.

As an undergraduate at UCLA, Nathan believed that great insights could be found at the intersection of varying sectors, and pursued projects in biology and public policy, including helping discover a novel function of histone proteins as copper reductase enzymes, building a policy framework to understand how disabilities are defined and operationalized, and developing public policy programs that provide employment opportunities to persons with disabilities in Los Angeles. After graduating, Nathan pursued a Fulbright Scholarship in India, where he assessed metrics across access to care, physical health, and mental illness among persons with disabilities.

Nathan is currently an MD/MBA student at Harvard Medical School and Stanford Graduate School of Business. He primarily works as an operator focusing on solutions that impact the lives of persons with communication disorders. As a proud person who stutters, Nathan founded Myspeech, an international nonprofit organization that enables people who stutter to access personalized speech therapy, crucial community resources, and meaningful persons connections. Myspeech has demonstrated 90% improvements in quality of life and a 10X reduction in cost. Nathan was recognized with the $75,000 Harvard President’s Innovation Challenge Grand Prize and received a personal letter of support from President Joe Biden.

Nathan is also an avid investor and researcher. As a founding investor of VANA Capital, Nathan sourced multiple investments in the biotechnology space. The author of 10 publications, Nathan’s research has been published in academic journals, including Science, Science Advances, Nature Biotechnology, Journal of Fluency Disorders, and Autism in Adulthood. Nathan aspires to a career as a healthcare operator and investor focused on transforming the delivery of healthcare services for people with communication disorders.
