About Rajesh Gupta

Rajesh Gupta, MD, MS, MPH, is Vice-President of the Global Health Portfolio at VIR Biotechnology and is also a member of VIR's COVID-19 product development team. At VIR, he is responsible for advancing a subset of the Company’s therapeutic and vaccine efforts aimed at addressing infectious diseases in resource-limited settings. He also leads VIR’s overall public-private partnership efforts. A physician-epidemiologist by training, Dr. Gupta has spent nearly 20 years in global health working at the intersection of product development, program implementation and health policy. Prior to entering the pharmaceutical industry, his experience spanned roles at the World Health Organization, Google.org, Partners in Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. During his ongoing tenure within the pharmaceutical industry, he has helped lead the successful development of therapeutics targeting global infectious diseases and ensure such innovations reach patients around the world. Rajesh has held faculty positions at Stanford Medical School and Harvard Medical School, and has authored over 50 publications.

Rajesh was born in New York City to parents who emigrated from India. They are now naturalized citizens and live in Acworth, Georgia.

Rajesh received his MD and MS from Stanford University, his MPH from Yale University, and his BS and BA from Tulane University.

Rajesh resides in Berkeley, CA, with his partner – a human rights lawyer – and their daughter.
