Yamileth Lopez
Yamileth Lopez is the program administrative assistant at the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans. Growing up in the South Bronx surrounded by a minority-populated community, Yamileth became very passionate about racial justice and increasing opportunities for members of her community. This passion drove her to pursue a BA in Political Science at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where she recently graduated Summa Cum Laude. At John Jay, Yamileth was a member of the John Jay Honors Program and a board member of the Latinx Honors Committee and John Jay’s Pi Sigma Alpha Chapter (the national honor society for Political Science majors). One of her main accomplishments within these groups was organizing panels stressing the importance of voting to her John Jay peers. Prior to joining the PD Soros team, Yamileth interned at the Bronx District Attorney’s Office Crime Strategies Bureau; the Bronx Supreme Court, Civil Term, under Justice Wilma Guzman; Propel (a non-profit that invests in early-stage ventures and visionary leaders challenging the status quo and driving transformational stage); and RISE (a non-profit aimed at eliminating racial discrimination and improving race relations within the sports community). For fun, Yamileth loves going to concerts, hikes, and doing karaoke with friends.
