About Alex Iftimie

ALEX IFTIMIE is a associate general counsel at OpenAI. Previously, he was partner and co-chair at Morrison Foerster. Prior to that, he was an attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice where he served in various roles, including Counselor to the Attorney General, Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for National Security, and Attorney-Advisor in the National Security Division. Prior to joining DOJ, he clerked for the Honorable Diana Gribbon Motz on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. 

Originally from Romania, he came to the United States when he was 12, following the Romanian revolution. He is a naturalized citizen and his family resides in southern California.

Alex completed his JD at Yale Law School. He received his BA in international relations at the University of Southern California, graduating summa cum laude with election to Phi Beta Kappa. 

At Yale he was elected Editor-in-Chief of the Yale Journal of International Law and worked in the Civil Liberties and National Security Clinic. During his law school summers, Alex worked at the White House Counsel’s Office and the Department of Justice.
