About Neel Varshney

Neelaksh (Neel) Varshney, M.D. is the proud son of Anil and Shashi Varshney, immigrants from India. He was born and raised in Alabama.  

He is a Founding Partner of Patient Square Capital. He has over 17 years of investment and health care experience. Prior to Patient Square, Dr. Varshney was a Managing Director on KKR’s Americas Health Care Team, where he focused on health care private equity and growth equity. Prior to joining KKR, he was a Vice President at Linden Capital Partners and earlier worked at McKinsey & Company and Medtronic. Dr. Varshney trained as a physician at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), a Harvard academic teaching hospital, where he cared for patients in the acute care setting.

Dr. Varshney is on the Boards of Directors of Apollo Therapeutics, Elevage Medical Technologies, Enavate Sciences, and Kriya Therapeutics. He has served on the boards of companies across health care sectors and stages, including Ajax Health, BrightSpring Pharmerica, CORPAK MedSystems, Envision Healthcare, EPIX Therapeutics, Headlands Research, Slayback Pharma, and Virtus Pharmaceuticals. He also serves on the board of the non-profit organization Southern Research, based in Birmingham, AL.

Dr. Varshney holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). He earned an M.D. with Honors from Harvard Medical School and MIT (Health Sciences and Technology program) as a Soros Fellow. He also holds an M.Sc. in Neuroscience from the University of Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
