Nina Zubrilina

About Nina Zubrilina

Born in the United States to Russian parents, Nina Zubrilina moved to Moscow when she was a month old and lived there until returning to the US at 17 for college. Living 11 time zones away from her family, she greatly cherishes the rare moments she gets to spend with her family and works hard to make the most of the many educational opportunities available to her in the US.

Nina is a proud graduate of Moscow State School #57, which gave her the foundation of her mathematical education. At Stanford University, she moved on to doing original research. Nina participated in the Duluth Research Experience for Undergraduates twice; she also interned at Microsoft Research, where she contributed to the field of sphere packing. Nina has written a total of six papers and has received the Goldwater Scholarship and the Alice T. Schafer Prize honorable mention for her work.

After graduating from Stanford, Nina plans to pursue a PhD in mathematics. She would like to be a professor of mathematics and prove exciting results that would be of interest across STEM fields. She aspires to create a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program encouraging women to study mathematics—to pave the way for the next generation of mathematicians and help them fall in love with math as her many excellent mentors and professors did for her.
